FAN STORY: A Valencianista in La Palma
The island of La Palma is experiencing a crisis due to a volcanic eruption that is destroying hundreds of homes.
Living there is Valencia CF fan Alejandro Rocha, who spoke to VCF Media this week to appeal for help and describe the situation.
"My family and close friends are fine, but I know many people affected by the eruption, whom we have been helping to evacuate their homes. This is a catastrophe. Almost 6,000 people have been evacuated and 200 houses destroyed. It gives you a feeling of helplessness because nothing can be done. In a fire the flames can be put out, but in this case nothing can be done," he said.
Valencia CF, fellow fans and club ambassador Ricardo Arias have all sent their messages of support for La Palma.
"The message of support from Valencia CF touched my heart. Many fans have wished us well. I am very grateful to the fans and the club. I think it is beautiful that they care about a fan and all the inhabitants of the island. Valencia CF is a very important part of my life and knowing that the club and the fans are with us gives me motivation," says Rocha.
Those wishing to donate to the rescue effort in La Palma can do so through a variety of different means, including direct bank payments:
